Target Group and Participation
The ATPS Programme on Strengthening Health Technology Policy in Africa addresses key knowledge and technological issues that would lead to the improvement of the health delivery systems in selected African countries.
In this respect, ATPS is aiming to improve the use of technology and new knowledge within the health institutions of government especially those that focus on HIV/AIDS management.
Policy makers and leaders of these institutions are targeted and the institutions under their management will participate in this study and knowledge exchange.
The Pyrethrum Boards of East Africa will also receive the attention of ATPS and participate in this study.
ATPS has forged a strong collaborative link with the science academies of these countries to interrogate new methods in pyrethrum production, transmission to farmers and application as mosquito repellent, given the current ban on Dichlor-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT).
The study will also examine the institutions' use of new knowledge and technology to improve their processes.
ATPS has been supporting activities that expose the youth to issues of science for development. But it has mainly been on an ad-hoc basis. ATPS is currently developing youth and gender programmes.
One major plank of the youth programme is on youth leadership for HIV/AIDS.
Most of the leaders targeted are university-based which makes it easier for ATPS since the universities are where most of ATPS' national coordinators are based and are the network's natural allies.
The formation of science clubs for youth- youth knowledge and information exchange on health matters will be facilitated much more easily because of our existing affiliation with the universities.
